Our History

ICU Kenya Region was established in the year 2002 under ministry of Gender, Sports cultural and social services Department of social services (Reg No. TSO/CD/1329/2002). The leadership was pioneered by the late George Ochokolo who was the regional Chairman of ICU Kenya subsequent to that he was appointed as deputy prime minister – Southern Region.

At his demise, the late Gabriel Itela took over the chairmanship of the region, He was subsequently appointed DPM by his highness Papa Emormor as DPM Southern/Kenya region.

At his demise early 2021 Hon. Peter Johnson Ongaria was elected to take over the chairmanship of the Kenya region.

Kenya is one of the four regions established by Iteso Cultural Union based in Soroti Uganda.

AIMS AND OBJECTS OF THE INSTITUTION

The aims of Iteso Cultural Union are:

  • To advance Cultural Unity and development of and among Iteso and Ateker people;
  • To appreciate the origin and history of the Iteso and the greater Ateker;
  • To promote the unity of the Iteso and the Ateker;
  • To preserve and promote the Culture of the Iteso and the Ateker;
  • To encourage and promote social and economic development of the Iteso and the Ateker;

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Iteso Cultural Union is an institution that addresses the cultural values of the iteso community worldwide. Its Headquarters is in Soroti in the Republic of Uganda. The institution is Headed by His Highness Papa Emorimor.

The finances of the Union may be provided as follows:

  1. By membership subscription fees;
  2. By engaging in business activities;
  3. By investing in cultural activities;
  4. By fundraising and making of public appeals;
  5. By grants;
  6. By donations;
  7. By borrowing;

The aims and objectives of this institution are as follows:

  1. To appreciate the origin and the history of the Iteso;
  2. To promote the unity of the iteso;
  3. To preserve and promote the culture of the Iteso;
  4. To encourage and promote social and economic development of the Iteso;
  5. To encourage religious tolerance, not to support particular Denomination or Sect and to respect the rights of the individuals to freedom of worship and other fundamental rights;
  6. To be non-partisan.

Overall Objective:

To support and promote Iteso culture and, community projects aimed at poverty reduction through improved livelihood systems and the conservation of community natural resources and initiatives for enhanced Iteso culture management and governance.

Specific objectives

To do all other such things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objectives.
